Old Germany in Qingdao

Once upon a time, the Germans ruled Qingdao, a port city in north-east China where the water is sapphire and the sunset tangerine.

Today, you can still find plenty of Germans, tourists who come to taste the city’s famous beer, first developed by their forefathers 90 years ago.

Besides teaching the locals the secret of making beer better than what had been distilled in Europe, the colonials also left behind brick-and-stone beauties that make Qingdao look like a miniature Alps town.

Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Qingdao attracts visitors from the world over.

Sights like the Eight Passes Villas, Wusi Square, the Zhan Bridge, Mt Laoshan, No.1 Bathing Beach and Badaguan Scenic Area will help you remember Qingdao.

Climb two sacred mountains in Qingdao (Mt Heshan and Mt Laoshan) in any season. The yearly average temperature on the mountains is 12deg Centigrade, not too hot in summer nor too cold in winter.

The city sponsors the Qingdao International Beer Festival, Qingdao International Sea Festival, Beach Culture Festival, the Sea Affection Festival, and the Summer of Qingdao Festival.
